From Instagrammable to Insta-profitable, the most widely used social media app is now ramping up its shopping features. Have you ever felt more than inspired by a photo and actually want to buy the exact same thing you’ve seen from someone you’re following? Instead of just tapping to like the photo, now you can purchase any item with just one click. Instagram will soon introduce its new shopping feature where you can basically “See, Tap, and Shop.” The exact launch date of this new feature (which is rumored to be called “IG Shopping”) is yet to be determined, but according to Instagram’s head of fashion partnerships, Eva Chen, “With the latest updates, we are heloing complete the cycle from seeing something and being inspired to purchasing.”
Look for a little shopping bag icon.
This icon will let you know which posts are shoppable. When users scroll through the feed, they see a Tap to View Products pop-up in the bottom-left corner or a small white circle with the shopping bag icon. According to Instagram, “Businesses using shopping on Instagram can now use product stickers in Instagram Stories in addition to product tags in Instagram posts. With product stickers in Instagram Stories, people can quickly access product information and shop seamlessly.”
Tap the image to view product details.
When you tap the details, you will be taken to a different page where you can see more information and bigger photos.
Tap the Shop Now button.
This will take you directly to the website of the company where you can add the item to your shopping cart and check out.
Shopping in the Explore Channel and stories.
The Explore feature of Instagram lets you see posts based on your different preferences, whether it’s travel, fashion, music, fitness, home decor, among many other things. This is still in the testing stage, but Instagram says that this will be both beneficial to the shopper and seller. “The channel contains shopping posts that are personalized to each shopper’s style and taste. With shopping on Explore, shopping posts have the opportunity to be shared with people who don’t yet follow your business. People can discover new shopping businesses and posts on Explore, tap through on product tags, and visit the business’ website or continue browsing that business’ other shopping posts.”
